Gender, Jobs, & Status

Gender, Jobs, & Status

Gender and status are inherently linked. Throughout history, men have had more access to wealth and power than women, typically holding higher-status roles in society than women, and women continue to be shut out of some of the highest-status occupations, and are underrepresented in upper-level management positions and politics. However, actual evidence of the link between gender representation and occupational status is mixed. In this project, we explore how different aspects of job gender-typing, such as gender ratio, gendered personality, and gendered work requirements, are related to status measures such as perceived prestige and earnings.
